Is It Worth Hiring a Billiard Coach?

Is It Worth Hiring a Billiard Coach?

I took a break from shooting pool because of work commitments. I just didn't have enough time to shoot at the hall. Anyway I still have my 2 cue sticks and want to start up again.

Is it worth hiring a billiard coach?

I think of myself above the beginner level, but never have any consistency. I could be on a roll on one rack and then miss every single shot the next. Would investing some money with a coach be worth it?

I want to get to the point where I can join pool tournaments now and then, and do reasonably well (or at least have a chance).

I mean I do have videos about billiard tutorials and obviously some pool playing books, but I'm thinking a live human being would help too as a book can't tell me if there's something wrong with my stance or something.

Thoughts?

They are not going to be a "magic bullet" and would need to be supplemented with the usual hours of practice. However, everyone I talked to has said they got more out of a training session than they ever expected. It helped them to focus on the right things when practicing on their own.

Also, this topic has been discussed here in the past. Have a read through these articles and discussions on whether it is worth hiring a billiard instructor.

If you still have specific questions after reading these, post them here.
