I am playing in a VFW league of 8 ball. The 8 ball rules we are playing under say:
"absolutely no safety."
Having played position play or shape all my life at least 60 years I find this not in compliance with a good game of pool.
Because of this rule, I am stymied after playing defensively all my life.
What is your take on the "no safety play" rule?

I'm new in the BCA league and it's been hard for me to change my thought process on passing up a safety shot to hide my opponent. When I try, I either hit the ball too hard or something else worse happens. I'm still accustomed to looking for my break out ball while playing 8 ball!
