What Size Pool Table for Room Size?

What Size Pool Table for Room Size?

Just found this forum and hope someone can help. I'm in the planning stages of building a new house which I will be having a game room. Plenty large enough for a high quality pool table, even a 9" table. My question is should I go with a 9", 8.5" or 8" table. I never play in tournaments or leagues; it will be only for family and friends. Some have told me 9" might be overkill considering its use, bigger is not always better in other words. It"ll be going into a 24"x24" room. Just looking for some input, thanks.

A room that is 24x24 will definitely be large enough for a 9' pool table.

If it was me, I'd be going with the 9' assuming that I wasn't trying to fit too much other furniture in there.

On the other hand, if it WAS me, I'd probably want a sofa, and maybe a small bar or something for casual nights with friends and family, so maybe I'd go for an 8 foot pool table.

It really is a matter of personal preference though, since you have the room to go as big with a pool table as you want.

Also, we have a few resources on this site for helping you determine the appropriate size for a home billiard room.

A billiard table room sizing article has been published in the home billiard rooms section, and then there is the pool table room size calculator

The last one will help you calculate the size of a home billiard room including allowances for different sized pool cues. These are meant only to supplement the advice of a professional, and are for informational purposes only.

For casual play in the home an 8' table generally is a good choice and less expensive in the long run (table price, replacement cloth price down the road, etc).

9ft. is the way to go. Here's a photo of my room at home on the 2nd floor of the house, the table weights 1,000kg = 2,200lbs and this will give you and idea of size. My room is 29'x22', it's a big room. Your minimum size for a 9ft. table is 18'x14' if anything you go bigger. Good luck with your project.

Size matters. If you plan on staying there go for the gusto. Also tell the contractor/architect to beef the floor up. Shaun has a great room..I would add a little more.
