Recommend a Pool Table for Home Use?

Need some advice on choosing a new pool table, please!

Baseline: The pool table is needed for home use, the room allows to place a large pool table. I expect to play on it no more than 1-2 times a week. For the money - no more than 2000 euros.

Are there any checklists I can rely on when choosing? The choice is huge and I'm lost.

The only thing that I understood for myself is that the base of the playing field should not be from a chipboard, but from slate. Or am I wrong?

Please advise who knows what, eh?

    I guess you're not a pro-player, just as I am not. But I was in the same boat choosing a pool table for home usage.

    What I found here and on the other forums is that a used pool table in good condition would be the best possible solution, but it could be hard to find one.

    Also, have you had a look at existing questions about used pool tables in this forum already?

    In general:

    • The slate should be at least 1 inch thick. If slate is too thin, it will warp on you quickly and next thing you know when you make a shot, the ball will slightly swerve.
    • The quality of pool table cloth.
    • Sturdy legs... well, that's pretty obvious.
    • As for a size, look for an 8' foot pool table if possible (or, at least, this pool table room size guide is your friend. A full size table needs a pretty big room.
    • Are you going to play pool or snooker? Well, that one is hard.

    When I chose mine, I was told that I should look at Olhausen, Golden West or Diamond. Those three are all considered to be very high quality, but would be overkill for me.

    Also read through the posts in the selecting a pool table section.

    They will help you greatly in sorting out and choosing which one is best for you.
