Definition of Live Balls

Live Balls is a billiards term that is a part of Billiard Technique Terminology.

According to Billiards Forum member Rod, "live balls" are the balls which have not yet been pocketed. The phrase the live balls refers to all of the billiard balls which remain on the pool table and are still in play during a game. A live ball refers to any one of the live balls.

Contrast this with [the dead balls](/billiard-terms-definition/dead-ball "Billiard definition of the dead balls) which are all of the balls which have been pocketed and are no longer in play.

Live Balls - Usage

When a ball has been pocketed it is a dead ball and when a ball is still on the table and in play, it is a live ball.
