What if you Make the 8 Ball and Scratch?
We're playing eight ball pool, with the variation where we must bank the 8 ball on the last shot.
What happens if you make the 8 ball and scratch on that same last shot?
Is that a loss of the game or do we put spot the 8 ball back on table?
This question relates to the following billiard rules:

The fact that you're playing the "bank the 8 ball" variation makes no difference. When you scratch on the final 8 ball shot, the same rules of 8 ball pool apply.
This question has been asked and answered here before. For a full analysis of specifically which 8 ball rules apply to the scenario, see the first answer to the question "what if you sink the 8 ball then scratch the cue ball?.
But in short, in your scenario, the shooting player has lost the game.
Here's why:
- A cue ball scratch is a "standard foul" in 8 ball pool.
- When you commit a "standard foul" on the same shot in which you pocket the 8 ball, it is a loss of game.
