Quick Website Feedback Survey!

We're going to be making some updates to the forum within the next few months, and have come up with a list of changes. It occurred to me that the questions about what to change should be posed to the users:

Have you received much feedback on this subject?

    To the Top

Couple of responses. None as details as yours though - thanks by the way.

I'll definitely be implementing the "user rating system" - where members can rate each other based on quality of their responses, etc. On any posts that are a "question", it will allow the original poster to choose a "best" answer - for which rating points will also be awarded.

Its such a good idea, I've seen it work on other forums. I was thinking about starting the ratings based on rank in the current system for existing members...eg: someone who is ranked "expert member" may start out with 450 rating points, or something like that...you get the idea.

Oh...by the way, I have already implemented the guest account modification where they don't achieve any star ranking. You will notice that they rank "scared to sign up" - which will always be the case, regardless of how many posts accrue. I'm still considering locking the account altogether, but for now, that solution should suffice.

I sent in the survey with some ideas (good or bad) and hope some good comes of the feedback.

One I made reference to is the ability for guests to post. I don't think guest should be rated nor should they be ABLE TO POST IN THE FORUMS. Many just take the info they are looking for and disappear.

Anyway, good luck with the changes.

What is a user rating system? And how does it work?

I am not in any way unhappy with the layout of the forum.

The thing that we need to improve is the level and kinds of communications between the members. Too many threads only run for a couple of posts. Everyone should be encouraged to contribute and make the forum better serve its members.

I do not think that the forum itself is holding the forum back. I think that some of the members need to come out of their shells and participate. Come on, we can't bite. Very hard.

Yeah Agreed. I'm going to test some promotions in December where I'll buy 10 or so subscriptions to insidepool or something. Each post/reply would get a ballot or something, then could draw at the end...hopefully something like that should drive posts.

Mitch, It seems to me we have been down this path before and not much happened. I do agree, it is something to work on.

I believe that many readers are intimidated by some of the more savvy post and feel what they have to say won't be taken seriously. If somehow the intimidation could be taken out of the equation I think more people would jump in with opinions and questions.

@mitch, How would you suggest we accomplish this? I do my best to welcome new members and encourage them to come back. Then I see the same posters, same handle on another site asking the same question.

For what it's worth, it was the web master who was asking for ideas and or feed back. He's trying to encourage more members to join and participate more often.

Look at the disproportion of the number of posts by our members below. Do you see what I'm seeing? I can't speak for @billiardsforum but I do see a slight problem. As asked before how do you suggest we change this.

billiardsforum has 676 posts, quickshot has 557 posts, Fenwick has 275 posts, guest has 269 posts, Mitch Alsup has 240 posts, Justanotherevolutionary has 196 posts, jenny has 84 posts, Bishop has 68 posts, Ginger has 65 posts, A-Train has 46 posts, tedmauro has 45 posts, Ross has 42 posts, kyle has 42 posts, patrickp123495 has 40 posts, RMCORP2006 has 39 posts, dlabout has 38 posts, Line Up has 36 posts, BHQ has 31 posts, JohninTennessee has 31 posts, treehumper has 26 posts, cuebald has 22 posts, shark3149 has 22 posts, billy has 22 posts, smichael has 22 posts, guest has 22 posts.

I still dislike the guest option. JMHO.

Hi Fenwick, long time no chat!

I am developing a new version of the website now, and I plan to remove the guest option all together. We expect to launch sometime around mid-late May.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
