Gandy and National Cues, Siblings

Gandy and National Cues, Siblings

I have here a Gandy cue and what looks like an early model of the same cue. The earlier one is either Gandy or National, not sure. The earlier one has aluminum inserts in the shafts, the later one brass.

The Gandy cue has a window with "Gandy" in it as well as the original logo sticker. The other has no identifying marks but is definitely Gandy or National.

They both have vinyl WICO type veneers. The older one four points, the newer one three points. The older one may be genuine WICO while the later one may be Viking veneers.

Sure looks like a Gandy cue.

I was thinking it looks like the Gandy HC-145 cue from their Tournament line, but I don't think that one had any points. In fact it's almost identical except the points, I think.

Either way, those are two really nice looking cues.

One of these sold several years ago with "Gandy" in the window, and it still had the original sticker on it with the model. It was an HC-145 according to the sticker.

So...it seems there were some variations on that model over the years. As you know, the HC-45 we see in the known catalog does not have points.

It is also possible it had the wrong sticker on it, which I think may be the case. I have found other cues that had the wrong model number on them. It happens...just the wrong sticker. I have a 1970 Adam with original stickers on it and it has the wrong model on it 100% for sure.

This is a rare cue. And the version I have with the aluminum inserts is even more rare. I cannot say for sure it was originally sold as a Gandy...I have a feeling it was actually a National. But that is just my gut.

I collect Gandy and am looking for them.

I missed one on Ebay recently because it went over retail. It was advertised as a Palmer and the seller would not update their listing when I told them it was a Gandy.

In addition, the wrap was torn and one of the shafts was non-original.

I have a feeling the buyer actually thinks he has a Palmer.

I already have that same model with WICO veneers, but this one had very nice wood veneers. I just could not pay over retail. I feel the sale was fraudulent as it was listed as a Palmer and that boosted the auction price.

Anyway, I am after any information, catalogs, or cues regarding National or Gandy.

I think this pair is a treasure and I enjoy having them together. I think they show the evolution of a model. There is an even later version and I can tell by the font in the window. I don't have one of those.

I have a bunch of low-res newer National catalog scans but I assume you are looking for the older ones. I am as well, so far with no luck.

I also assume you've see the photos of the pair of 1964 National Tournament Cues made by Bob Meucci when he worked for them? Guy was asking $8000 a piece when he posted them in mid-2016. No question they are very important pieces. Not sure if he sold them.

Love them...can't afford them. Not sure they are worth as much as has been asked. But it really depends on what someone is willing to pay.

Value is difficult because of the rarity.
