Antique Double Butterfly Cue

Antique Double Butterfly Cue

This cue has a brass pointed 5/16x14 pin, tortoise shell joint collar and shaft ring. Ivory ferrule, and ivory name plate. I have no idea yet what this cue is as far as maker.

What is really unusual is that the shaft has a black phenolic threaded insert instead of brass.

That is very weird. Never saw one like that before. I would think that would be a poor design decision.

Is this your cue? If so, do you feel any difference in how it plays, vs. a shaft insert made from a stronger material like brass or stainless steel?

Nothing wrong with such an insert. Modern cues sometimes use it.

In fact modern Joss cues use a black phenolic insert.

It feels fine. The cue plays remarkably well actually.
