What Causes Tears in Pool Table Felt?

What can cause a small thread tear in pool table cloth?

Our new professionally installed felt somehow acquired a tiny thread tear. It grew.

Now we have to replace the entire felt again and the owner wants answers as to how this could have happened when we know that no one has ever used a Massé shot.

Ironically the very same tear prompted the felt replacement very recently.

Someone has to pay up so we need to know what else could have caused the felt to tear?

No kids are allowed on this pool table.
