Problem with Rough Pool Table Slate or Bad Installation

Problem with Rough Pool Table Slate or Bad Installation

I just purchased a low end pool table in North Carolina with 1", 3-piece slate, for about $2000. It was locally made and seemed to be a good value.

Since installation I have noticed a few things that I'm not sure whether to be concerned about or not.

One thing is that I notice that when I rack the balls, several of the balls seem to have a preferred location and do not stay tight against adjacent balls.

I observed the pool table installation and set-up process and noticed that the slate top surface was not polished smooth but seemed to have small cut ridges.

I have a few questions to help me determine whether I have a problem with the pool table or the installation.

  1. Should the balls stay tight in the rack?
  2. Are ridges normal for a slate surface?
  3. I also notice that the balls seem to wobble a little as they come to a stop, as if they are settling into a ridge wherever they come to rest. Is this normal?

I appreciate any comments from qualified sources or experienced pool table repair techs.
