How to Install Leather Pool Table Pockets with Fringe

How to Install Leather Pool Table Pockets with Fringe

Hello folks!

I'm a retired 77 year old machinist. Way back in 1984, I purchased a new World of Leisure pool table (the Trafalgar model), which was never assembled due to several issues that changed the course of my life. Fast forward to today, where I have finally put the table together. It is covered, and I'm attempting to install the leather pockets, but I'm not sure I fully understand how they should be installed. Sadly, I have no one to consult, as I live in a very remote area of Western Washington, and the seller of the table (in Utah) went out of business long ago.

Is anyone here experienced in assembling pool tables? If so, would you be willing to share a little knowledge with me, so I can complete the table and maybe knock a few balls around? I'd certainly be grateful for anything anyone can offer.

Thanks kindly,
Harold

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've watched that video, and it suggests that the leather flaps that circle the upper portion of the pocket should not be trapped under the rails when they are installed, but they are quite long and "flap in the breeze". The only thing that makes sense is if they are partially trapped under the ends of the rails, otherwise they would have to be fastened (glued) to the felt on the vertical portion of the holes. That's what has me stymied.

The age of these pockets has rendered them rather dry and rigid, so I intend to treat them with Leather Honey to soften them somewhat. That might help them hang better, as they are somewhat distorted from years of storage in the box in which they were shipped to me. Do you recommend that? It has yet to be done.

It would probably be helpful if I had a history of shooting pool, but, at best, all I've ever done is knock the balls around. Still, I'd like the table to be presentable.

I appreciate the time you've dedicated to my problem.

    Harold
