Good Materials for a Pool Table Frame

Has anyone heard of building the base and frame of a pool table with 2X6 pine and then using Teak wood for the legs and rails?

A local guy, pool player and friend, is building his own pool tables like this. He also uses 1" slate with wood backing supported by 2X4 lumber so I think the table should be pretty good.

I was just concerned about the pine wood.

Thoughts?
