Irving Kaye Lion Head Pool Table Information

I have an Irving Kaye Lions Head pool table and I am looking for more information.

It is an Irving Kaye billiard table that has lion heads on every corner made of solid brass, and it also has lion feet made of brass with curved legs.

I am also looking for any additional information you can provide on these Irving Kaye lions head pool tables.

You can call me at (785) 640-5484.

I will appreciate any and all offers of information.

Irving Kaye made a line of pool tables called the "Silver Shadow", and within that line, you could order the models in a "Lions Head" version. I believe they were common in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

They came in 7', 8' and 9' versions, and there were a number of custom orders for this table as well, so you will see some non-standard versions out there, such as this 9 foot Irving Kaye Lion's Head custom ordered pool table:

Its a special edition or variation on the Irving Kaye "Silver Shadow" pool tables made in the 1970s.

The Irving Kaye Lion's Head pool tables are rare as compared to the standard Silver Shadow, but they are always coming up for sale online these days.

Depending on condition, an Irving Kaye Lion's Head can be valued at between $500 and $1600.

At the high end, it would have to be either "never used" or fully refurbished.

I have also heard the following comments in my travels and in researching these:

    • IK sold lots of the Lion Head pool tables in the Nebraska area apparently so watch classifieds around there.
    • The pockets on the Irving Kaye Lions Head pool tables (and on Irving Kay pool tables in general) were cut tight.
    • It can be difficult to get parts for these tables
    • Folks commonly complained that the lions head stuck out and they hurt the legs a lot. One guy said: You actually have to get up from every shot and step away from the table before you walk around to the next shot.

Recent classifieds can be found for under $1000 (doesn't mean they actually sold)

There is one for sale now (Fall 2016) near San Antonio, TX:

2016-08-01 - $900, or trade: Silver shadow pool table made in Brooklyn New York in 1970's. Only a hand full of these out there across the United States. It has metal lions faces on corners and metal legs. Table plays well, it is a coin op. Comes with a set of balls and a couple pool cue sticks.

This one is from 2014 in Merced, CA and I'd guess it never sold for the asking price.

201401-15 - $800 - Used Irving Kaye coin op pool table for sale in Merced, CA. The coin mechanism is still in place but the rest of the hardware for it is not. Kinda rare lions head pool table made in the 1970s. It has 6 cues but only 2 are usable. The others need new tips. Set of balls, rack and wall mount cue holder. The felt does not have any tears but is getting pretty thin. One of the bumpers does have a tear on the top. It has a one piece slate top about 3/4" thick. The table is playable as is but would need to be disassembled to be moved. I will help with the disassembly so you can see how it is done so that you can reassemble.

The top part of one of the lion head corners is busted on my IK pool table. What are the chances of finding a replacement for it?
