Help Identifying Antique Brunswick Table

Help Identifying Antique Brunswick Table

Please help me identify the model of this antique Brunswick pool table and it's approximate date.

It has been in my family for many years and we want to make some repairs to help make it more functional. We want to recover it and install new cushions at the minimum. A full restoration / refinish isn't really necessary at the moment.

Measuring the playing surface, it seems to be an oversized 8' pool table.

My great grandfather purchased it a very long time ago. I have only been able to find 2 other pictures of the same pool table while searching online, but neither had a name or description.

Thanks,
Nick

I believe it is a Brunswick Balke-Collender & Co. Eclipse pool table.

It isn't the "Eclipse" model from the 1800s (which had different legs and more detail in it's design), but rather, one from after 1905. I say this based on the patent label having it's latest patent dated 1905. From that, we know that your pool table is from 1905 or later.

I have only this one image from an old Brunswick site which isn't online anymore. It has the name and the legs and body style match yours perfectly.

The kicker is that the current Brunswick archives have zero references to this model, so unfortunately, this photo is the only help and info I can provide. Hopefully this helps you in researching it further.

That’s very interesting. Thanks for the reply.

Although it’s not as fancy or elaborate as many of the other pool tables made in that time period, based on what you’ve described and the lack of other photos and information I’ve been able to find, can we assume this model could be kind of rare, or just unpopular?

Maybe it was just a plain Jane model put in saloons and pool halls?

This is just speculation, but what comes to mind is that they may have made a design decision to change the leg style, resulting in what ended up being called the Brunswick Challenge.

It was made from 1904-1915 and has the identical patent list as far as I can tell.

It appears identical in every way except for the leg style.
