Rail Billiard Rules

Rail billiards is a carom billiard game that is played on a carambole table with no pockets.

Rail Billiards is played with each player having a white ball which shall be their cue balls while shooting. One of those balls is solid white and the other is a spotted white. Once player is "White" and the other player is "Spot." The third ball is red.

Scoring under Rail Billiard Rules is done by the cue ball contacting the red ball and the opponents cue ball on the same shot. Each time this is accomplished, the shooting player scores one "count." Before the game begins, the players set an arbitrary count number that must be reached. The first player to reach the set count level is the winner of the game of rail billiards.

A common strategy used to "run the table" in rail billiards, is to "crotch the balls" in the corner. To accomplish this, players manage to get the two object balls frozen in a corner together. They then repeatedly shoot their object ball at the frozen object balls so as to not cause them to move. In this situation, one can easily accumulate the requisite number of points.

Innings end when a player fails to make their cue ball contact both the red ball and the other white ball.
