Next Ball Billiards Rules

Here are the Next Ball Billiards Rules. Next Ball Billiards is a variant of 8 ball pool so anything not specified in the rules below should follow 8 ball rules.

  • In Next Ball Billiards, you must call every shot, but you also call a "next ball". If you pocket your initial called ball, then the "next ball" (the 2nd ball you called) must be hit first (but not necessarily pocketed) on your next shot.
  • If you're an incoming player, you don't have a "next ball" you must hit on the first shot.
  • If you miss your "next ball" your inning ends and you pull and spot a ball.
  • If you are shooting at the 8-ball, your "next ball" is the quadrant of the pool table that the cue ball ends up in. If you sink the 8 as called but the cue ball ends up in another quadrant, the 8 is spotted on the head spot.

I've thought about playing that way to help force me to really plan out my shots. I'll have to try that with my pool buddy.
