Accurate Stun Shot Drill

This billiard drill focuses on stun shots or stop shots that actually draw back at a slight angle to give you position for your next shot.

Accurate Stun Shot Drill

To set up the stun shot drill, place a number of object balls in a semi-circle around the corner pocket as follows:

Stun run through shot drill setup

The "stun run through" is a shot that needs an accurate strike on the cue ball, good timing, and a good feel for the pace of the pool table. You should aim to hit the cue ball a half of a tip to three quarters of a tip below center, with no side spin. The stun/draw shot is at the crux of this billiard drill.

Begin at position A, pocketing the 1-Ball in the corner with a crisp stroke of the cue. The result should be the cue ball floating on its natural path back, and over to position C, leaving the necessary angle to easily pocket the next ball. Continue down the line as far as possible.

Your goal is to pocket the ball you are shooting at and purposely bring the cue ball back out to give you the perfect position (e.g. the ideal best position) to give you an easy, straight-in shot on the next object ball.

Also you can change it up and make the head spot the cue ball's "home base" and bring the cue ball back there (or at least close to it) every time, and try to pocket the next ball from there.

Increase difficulty by continually increasing the curve of the semi-circle of object balls as well as by adding more object balls into the mix. Eventually you will work your way up to using all 15 balls in an "L" shaped formation.
