Changing Weight on an Old Viking Cue

Changing Weight on an Old Viking Cue

I have an older Viking cue (at least 15 years old) and I am hoping to change the weight.

I assumed I would see a hex-nut on the bottom, but I see a standard slot flat-head screw. I unscrewed it and it feels as if it is scraping against the wood, like it is not to be removed.

Is this an old or low-end Viking cue that cannot be modified?

The only identifying mark is the Viking logo. Here are pics of the screw and the logo.

Thanks all.

You have a basic Viking cue from some time in the 1990s. It is hard to tell the exact series or model as I can't see the rest of the cue.

I don't have first-hand experience of removing the screw from these older Viking cues. They may be epoxied or glued in.

All of the Viking brochures of that era have options for weight, and the repair services list "weight or lighten cue" as a service. They also list replacement of the butt plate (the white part on your cue) as a repair service. Based on this I guess it is possible.

I have heard, though, that the flat-head bolts are structural (vs the newer hex-head weight bolts, which are not).

    Best to consult with Viking.
