1990s Brunswick Pool Cue ID and Value

1990s Brunswick Pool Cue ID and Value

I picked up this Brunswick pool cue from a yard sale and was wondering if anyone here can help me identify it and it's blue book value?

Its shaft is a bit worn and the case it came in is beat up, but otherwise it is a beautiful cue.

I know for sure it is a Brunswick, but beyond that I cannot ID any other marks on it.

What little research I have done leads me to think it is a McDermott from the 1990's?

Any suggestions?

Your pool cue is from the 1996 Brunswick Magnum Series which was manufactured by Joss USA. Yours is the Brunswick Magnum MG-3 model (aka Brunswick MAG-3).

Here is the 1996 Brunswick cues brochure showing the Magnum cues series. Yours is the third cue from the left.

They had a MSRP of $205 but sold online at most places for $165.

A blue book value for this cue wouldn't be useful at this point as the book is so far out of date. Looking at recent eBay sales is a much better method of pricing a cue. I couldn't find any sales for this exact model, but found two for other Brunswick Magnum series cues. Both sold for values in the low $400 range. Yours, if in near-perfect shape might fetch a similar price, perhaps between $275 and $350 since it's a lower model than the two I found.

The first is a Brunswick MAG-4 from the same Magnum Series by Joss (same catalog, same year, just the next higher model up from yours). This one had an original MSRP of $340 but could be bought at online retailers for $240. It sold for $405 in April 2018.

Beautiful Brunswick MAG -4 cue made by Joss USA. I bought this from a billiard store that went out of business 12 years ago (NOS). The cue as been used a handful of times and stored at all times in a case. As seen in the pics the cue is in outstanding condition from the tip to the bumper. I give it a 9 our of 10, with 10 being perfect. The butt weighs 15oz and the shaft 3 5/8. The shaft has an ever slight lift (more a taper lift to me) and is only very very slight. Somebody’s going to get a gorgeous cue.

The second is from the Brunswick Diamond Series by Joss (same catalog, same years, just slightly higher-end models). This one had an original MSRP of $260 but could be bought at online retailers for $195. It sold for $404 in April 2018.

This is a beautiful Joss Brunswick pool cue stick with hard case. The cue is 19oz and is 58" long.

FYI - These Joss-made Brunswick cues use an odd pin - the 5/16x13 Brunswick.

Standard Joss replacement shafts will not fit.

Thanks for the great information everyone! After all things considered, I decided to post the cue for sale on eBay. I listed the cue it for $150 and hope it sells for that, but who knows in this day and age. Do you know of any other good places to list it where it may sell better? I feel bad leaving such a beautiful cue just sitting in my garage.

Surely you should get more than that.

You might try AZB if you are a member there.

I don't see your Ebay sale. Post a link here please.

Found the eBay auction (listing id 283044964142):

Brunswick Magnum MG-3 model (aka Brunswick MAG-3) Pool Cue - USED

    Starting bid:US $150.00
    Buy it now: US $250.00

1996 Brunswick Magnum MG-3 model (aka Brunswick MAG-3) manufactured for Joss USA.

The rear potion of the cue is in excellent condition, with beautiful mother of pearl inlays of Maltese crosses in the butt sleeve. There are no nicks or abrasions on the rear shaft and the wrap is in excellent condition. The forward shaft appears dyed blue from frequent use, but it is still in excellent shape: smooth, straight, and with a decent tip on the end.

The pool cue offered comes with the original case, however, the exterior of it has a cut and several tears on it from use. Also, the interior has "5 cents" written on the inside from a yard sale.

For future buyers, this cue uses an odd pin, the 5/16 x 30 Brunswick. (Standard Joss replacement shafts will not fit)

Overall, this is a beautiful, vintage cue stick from a quality company that could use a good home from its prior owner.
