Legal Bar Room Pool Tournament

Legal Bar Room Pool Tournament

Hello everyone, I am a female shooter just trying to find out what is legal and what is not about bar room pool tournaments.

I am running a pool tournament at our local bar, and some players say the house has to put in 64% of what the players put in which is a five dollar entry.

Can anyone give me some advice as how to handle this, as we want to keep this legal, and don't want know trouble from the feds.

Just call your local DA. Don't forget he's elected and works for you.

I would suggest that you not run a tournament until you do your homework and research all the variables that are involved in doing it. Get solid information from an informed source, not the local players who may or may not have agendas of their own. Work with the bar owner as I'm sure he has house rules that may apply. For your own protection make sure you have "All YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW". Your gut feeling should guide you. Have fun and good luck.

Agreed. That is good advice from @quickshot. Your city probably has regulations on competitions where there is a cash prize. You may also need permits. Your city hall should have some answers for you. (Or whichever institution in your city typically issues various permits.

Would you please let us know what you find out? It would be extremely interesting to know the details.

I would check with other bars and pool rooms in your town. The less you get the government involved in your life the better. In my town, we have several weekly tournaments. Some bar owners kick in money and some don't. I think it's up to the bar owner. Remember it's easier to get forgiveness than permission when contacting the government. There is no pool tournament police in any town that I know of. As far as percentage of pot matched for prize money, I have personally seen zero, 25 percent, 50 percent and 100 percent. I hope this helps.
