Next at the Pool Table when Going from Partners to Singles

Next at the Pool Table when Going from Partners to Singles

If you are playing partners and you WIN the table but no one wants to play partners, how should the singles game be determined? Should you have a playoff game where the winning team play each other to determine who remains on the table or should you flip a coin to see who plays the next opponent?

This has been a huge problem at the bar where we play.

I suppose there isn't anyone here who has an answer or solution to this dilemma?

There generally aren't any "unwritten rules" about this as far as I know. But now that I have thought about it, I think the establishment should post a "house rule" about this exact situation. That way players don't even have to think about it.

But if there are no house rules about it...

Since you were playing together on a doubles team, one would assume you would have worked out a system between you before hand for this situation. If not, a few options for who would play first, in the order I personally prefer:

    1. Play each other. (if the players in line don't want to double up, then they will have to wait it out)
    2. Which ever player on your doubles team made the game winning shot will continue to play
    3. "Lag" to decide who will play (e.g. the same way players would "lag for break" to determine who breaks
    4. Let the incoming single player decide
    5. Flip a coin
    6. If there are 2 players in line to play, have them both come in as a doubles team, and let them work out who, out of the two of them, will stay if they win.

Thank you so much for the reply. I will talk to the bar owner and ask for posted rules.
