Any Tips to Make Shots?

New player to pool and been watching some videos and studied the to learn the basics and had the 3 following questions.

  1. I'm trying to master the "Ghost ball" tip but i don't know it doesn't seem to be working unless I physically put the ghost ball on the object ball Just using my imagination the shot doesn't seem to be going.
  2. I think one of my big issues is the cue stick and trying to keep it straight when I hit the ball, I try to follow through on my shot but i don't know when I make contact on the cue ball my cue stick feels weird of that makes sense, it makes a bad sound like I missed the hit even though I'm pretty sure I hit the cue ball where I wanted to. Maybe my execution is wrong?
  3. Finally, where should my eyes be? People say object ball, but when I step in do I want to look at the cue ball first and then object ball? I see people often do a few strokes before making contact, should my eyes change based on the stroke? Like when I step in and stroke like I'm about to hit the ball should I look at the cue ball? And then as I pull back the stick, should I look at object ball? And then keep doing this and finally stroke back > pause > look object ball and hit?

Really just want all the tips you guys can give me, I'm basically not sure if my issue is the ghost ball or its something mechanical, maybe with my stance, bridge hand, follow through, eyes etc...
