Erik Hjorliefson and Marcel Gauvreau, Canada's top shots came out to Shooters Billiards the weekend of November 25-26 for the Canadian 30K Tour's stop. With a field of 45 fine billiard players, it was impossible to predict a winner, but frequent champion Erik Hjorliefson was the one to come through at the end.
Hjorliefson didn't take the easy route, though - after being defeated by Marcel Gauvreau 9-8, he was sent to the one-loss side. Gauvreau went on to the hot seat match, where he faced off against last week's winner, Mike Patrowicz, and defeated him 9-4.
With both barrels recharged, Hjorliefson takes a big 10-1 win over Al Lougheed, sending him home with fifth place, and then advances to the quarterfinals, where he was still fired up and defeated Jeff Lohmer 9-2.
Patrowicz was standing in between Hjorliefson and the finals, but that didn't bother “Big Red,” who easily handled his opponent 10-3. Back on the A side, Hjorliefson strolled by Gauvreau 10-3 in the first set; after a short break, another quick 10-4 win put Hjorliefson on the winner's podium for the third time this season.
