New Game - Texas One Shot

We have a new billiard game called "Texas One Shot".

It is derived from 9-ball where you can always win in one shot.

  • If the 9-ball moves it could roll into a pocket producing a win,
  • If the 9-ball does not move there was never a chance of winning.

This is the premise of the game. If the 9 ball moves, then you get to shoot again, if the 9 does not move, your inning is over.

A player must pocket the 9 ball to win but does not need to pocket a ball to shoot again. Just move the 9-ball, it's that easy.

The game features the "Phat Rack" - a 90­° rotation of the standard 9-ball, where the 1-ball is placed in the (new) head of the rack, and the 9 ball is placed on the spot. It looks juicy!

    So you have to (a) hit the lowest ball on the table and (b) move the 9 ball, in order to get another shot?

    Correct. The game follows the rules of BCA 9Ball except for the reward system. In 9Ball a player is awarded another shot if a ball is pocketed while in TX1Shot a player is awarded another shot if the 9ball moves. If the 9ball moves a player does not even need to touch a rail as moving the 9 is the same as making a ball in 9Ball.. This allows a player to 'putt' to put themselves in a better position to win. Thanks for asking. Race to three against someone and you will both be hooked.

    It is a great teaching game. Noobies are so focused on making a ball every shot they have a hard time thinking defense and/or position. This frees the mind, teaches the value of a soft shot and reveals weaknesses in one's game. A player goes from thinking they know a shot to finding out if they have the control they believe they do. It allows for very creative shots. Of course, 10Ball players hate the game because any ball can move the 9 long after a player has missed 'the shot'.

    The hardest part for experienced players is shooting after not potting a ball. Seeing the 9 roll up to the pocket and stop they think they just gave the game away but the 9 moved and it is still their shot. Making balls is so engrained in players thinking it is evolutionary to shoot again for merely moving a particular ball.
