This is actually an area that gets frequently "house ruled" at most local establishments, and with casual, friendly play.

Most players make informal understandings that if you jump a ball, and strike another object ball resulting in a pocket, you continue play, and the remaining balls lie as is.

Problem is, most casual players don't know how to jump properly. They usually jam the cue in to the cloth, and "lift" the cue ball over the object ball in the way. A proper jump is one where the cue strikes the cue ball only slightly below center.
