Renaissance Master Pool Tables Amity - Manufacturer Info

At Renaissance Master Pool Tables (a division of "Piece of the Wind Woodcarving"), hand carved, custom Luxury Pool Tables are the specialty. Since the late 1990's, pool table maker and master wood carver Steven Pancoast has been acquiring supplies and rearranging his shop to focus on the custom pool tables, cue racks, and custom, hand carved game room furniture. The custom carved, hand build pool tables go for anywhere between $15,000 USD to over $60,000 USD, and buyers can request any matching game room furniture or accessories they desire. Steven calls his tables "Renaissance Master Pool Tables" (not to be confused with the mass-produced Renaissance Play Master pool tables sold by AMF).

From Renaissance Master Pool Tables & Piece of the Wind Woodcarving:

In designing Renaissance Master Pool Tables, my simple goal has been to create the finest built, most uniquely beautiful and best playing table I possibly can... and have done so by combining the best of the Old World Tables with the New.

From the Old, first & foremost is the hand craftsmanship. From the care in choosing & matching woods, joinery, aesthetic design, and carving. CNC doesn't lend well to one of a kinds, but even within limited edition pre-made tables, hand carving still finishes what the CNC can only start.

  • I have taken the logic of the need for weight to help prevent the table from scooting out of balance when you stretch out to take that long shot.
  • Hardwood is used throughout, even on my unique inner table frame. No plywood is used except for brackets, and slate support, & then only 9-11 ply Baltic or Apple.
  • The outer table frame is actual hardwood rated for beauty that is grain matched & finished to enhance it's very beauty. The species chosen is dependent upon design & finish. Sometimes a faux pattern replaces the beauty of a natural wood grain.
  • Most painstaking of all are the rails. With 64 critical points, from specific 'players shape' to the diamond sights; the inner mechanics that provide bolt down to the slate & precise angle of the cushion face, not to mention the limited wood species used... I boast my rails to be as finely built as any... ever

From the New is technology in materials, & simplicity in assembly. Now, let me make that clear. Renaissance Tables can be assembled & ready for covering in under 1 hr, but use a unique fastening system unlike any other method of which I'm aware. Once together, the table is engineered to have a uni-body characteristic. Using specific adhesives & fasteners in it's construction, combined with 'pressure joinery' , fully assembled, there is no 'tweeking', or parts movement possible from the legs to the slate. Solid...period.

  • Other components are advances in technology & precision manufacturing.
  • Specializing in 4' x 8' Standard size pool tables, 3pc 3/4" Italian, or 1" Brazilian slate is all I will use. These are comparable, & still considered the best choices.
  • Felt is Simonis 760HR High Speed Worsted Cloth (wool), available in several colors.
  • Pockets are great Hood Leather Pockets which are died & not stained, USA made.
  • Cushions are the highest quality available anywhere, from one of two sources and make the difference between a well playing, & a great playing table.

I do not choose my materials according to how expensive, but which is the best. I will not sacrifice quality for cost, but won't hesitate keeping cost down if there is a better or comparable, less expensive option.

Cost of a Renaissance Master Pool Table

There are two questions most commonly first asked after viewing, or playing on a Renaissance Master Pool Table. One, "How much?" The second,"How long does it take to build one?". I can pretty well tell what will come of the conversation by which that question is first asked. The fact is, I have more invested in materials than a typical inexpensive table retails for. Quite simply, these are not pool tables that falls into everybody's budget... nor are they intended to be. The most critical question to ask is, "Are they worth it?" The best answer comes from those that own one... or have played on one; unequivocally, "Yes".

The second question answers the first. Prices are determined by how much overall time goes into the design, materials & building, plus shipping & table covering (where I can cover, I learned long ago best to leave that aspect to the pros). Since I don't sell retail, you are paying cost. This may be one of my upcoming designs, or designed for you exclusively, which means the only limitation comes in desired design & budget. I can tell you the average price for a Renaissance Master Pool Table & matching cue rack hover in the $18-20k range, with the potential to go far above & but can be done nearer to the $12K mark, which is competitive with the upper grade retail tables. In any event, this represents my cost with no mark up, for a quality unavailable at a retail level. Shipping, setting & covering are not included because I don't feel one person should have to pay for anything they don't buy... like a portion of somebody else's shipping. All pricing is agreed & fixed before the table is built.

Terms & Matters [of Sale]

Terms are the same I have kept throughout my years in business.

  • Typically a 30% Security Deposit, no more than 50%, all dependent upon total price, time & material estimation. I will present a Concept & Price Agreement, which is simple & binding, unless the specific design changes are requested by the client. Pre-made inventory requires a 50% deposit.
  • All balances due upon completion &/or delivery.
  • An independent mechanic will be located in your area to do the actual setting & covering of the table, because I have learned this aspect is best left to the professionals. But in most cases I will personally deliver & be present throughout the setup process as a critical eye.
  • The whole process begins with a phone call or email, and a great deal of the process will take place through this means of communication. If possible, I will come to your home for a mutual interview & determine your needs. Particularly for commissioned work, this is an important aspect. I acknowledge that despite my integrity as a person & a craftsman, I do not have the reputation of a large company to back me. But then, production companies don't build a table like mine, nor can give the degree of service I try to offer.

About Steve R. Pancoast & Renaissance Master Pool Tables

Can this guy actually do what he claims, or am i about to get ripped off?

My first pool table came in the late 90's under pressure of a good client, & now old friend, to replace a 'custom' pool table they had paid a great deal of money, and came out with a virtually worthless pool table. I accepted the job, and had 30 days to learn all about this gaming table. One of the first things I read while researching was a statement made by Brunswick that said in effect, a good wood worker can built a beautiful table, but that doesn't mean it will be a good playing table. I took that to heart, and have been determined to build not only a pool table that would be considered a fine piece of furniture, but a table even a pro would enjoy playing upon. The fact is, I have only built a hand full of pool tables since that time, but each one got closer to that goal, with the last providing me those few finishing details in what proved to be a table critically described as one of the best built, best looking and best playing tables available.

After so many years in the custom wood carving/wood working business, my final dedication is to prove that critique as note worthy. Of all the pieces I have done over the years, I have not done one anymore satisfying nor gratifying than a pool table. Not only an heirloom worth passing, but a place people come, enjoy and celebrate the rewards for their efforts, in the comfort of their home. Some use it as relaxing therapy... others a social gathering spot... and others a place of relaxation and a bit of business no different than the golf course.

In short- I am an Old World craftsman caught in a New World setting.
