Definition of Under the Break

Under the Break is a billiards term that is a part of Billiard Technique Terminology.

In one pocket, being under the break refers to that part of the early game, where the non-breaking player is still under a distinct disadvantage in table layout as a continuation of the breaker's initial advantage.

You are under the break until you are able to "get out of the break" (or "get out from under the break"), by turning the breaker's advantage around or at least by neutralizing their advantage.

See: out of the break for more on the meaning of "Under the Break".
