Definition of Pocket Shelf
Pocket Shelf is a billiards term that is a part of Pool Table Terminology.
The narrow area of remaining flat slate surface between the points of a pocket and the actual cut edge that drops into the pocket. Some tables have deeper pocket shelves, which make it harder to take out an opponent's hanging ball, but at the same time they offer more room to leave your opponent corner hooked.
See: pocket, slate for more on the meaning of "Pocket Shelf".
Pocket Shelf - Usage
I love this table, they have the perfect sized pocket shelf at the pocket openings.
