Rocket Ronnie Backed to Break Record in 2023

The culmination of another fine snooker season saw Ronnie O’Sullivan win the World Championship for the seventh time. Success saw him equal the record of Stephen Hendry with the two men now leading the way in the modern era.

Can the Rocket make it to eight titles in 2023? While he’s nearing the veteran stage of his career, his snooker is as good as ever and he’s widely tipped for future success.

The Rocket Ranked

Even though the 2022 World Snooker Championship has just come to a close, betting markets are in place for the 2023 edition. According to bookmakers sourced by Sbo.net, Ronnie O’Sullivan is the favourite to win, ahead of Judd Trump in second place.

There’s lots of snooker to get through before the players line up at the Crucible once again. In the intervening months, the markets will be subject to change and visitors to the SBO site will be able to digest the new figures.

While here, readers can also take in news and blog posts relating to all cue sports. Reviews of betting sites are included and visitors can sign up with any of those sportsbooks if they wish. Subject to eligibility requirements, players can register for a new account and it’s likely that there will be a sign up offer in place.

Once onboard, account holders can use a range of deposit and withdrawal options while there is fast and friendly customer service for anyone who gets stuck. Moving forward, additional promotions, in-play betting and mobile apps may also be available.

It’s the logical site to follow for anyone betting on snooker but have the bookmakers called the World Championship market correctly?

Nearest Challengers

Judd Trump occupies that second favourites’ slot while Neil Robertson and Mark Selby are close behind. Jester from Leicester Selby is a multiple world champion while Robertson and Trump have recorded one win each.

All four will pose a threat although Selby would have been disappointed with his early exit from the Crucible this year. It might also be worth noting that O’Sullivan lost a ranking tournament final, The Tour Championship, to Neil Robertson in 2021.

The chasing pack includes Kyren Wilson, John Higgins, Mark Allen, Mark Williams and Yan Bingtao. All five may be in with a chance and it will be interesting to see how they perform over the course of the new season.

Both Williams and Higgins reached the semifinals at the Crucible this year and both continue to perform at high levels despite their advancing years. Allen lost to O’Sullivan in the 2022 tournament but a previous victory in the Masters shows that he can get over the line in big events.

The rising star could be the one to watch in 2023. Yan Bingtao defeated Mark Selby on his way to a quarter final appearance at the Crucible in 2022 and the 22-year-old will be confident of going even further next year.

There are plenty of challenges from within that chasing pack but few, if any, of those players could hope to ever match Ronnie O’Sullivan’s record.

The Record Breakers

The record for World Snooker Championship titles now stands at seven with O’Sullivan and Stephen Hendry the two men to have reached that milestone. For the purposes of these records, the landmarks date back to 1969 when the competition returned to a knockout format.

Prior to that date, the World Championship was a challenge match between two of the best players of the time. The great Joe Davis was a World Champion on 15 occasions between 1927 and 1946 but the makeup of the tournament in those days means that his record is overlooked.

Of those that are still playing the game, both John Higgins and Mark Selby have four world titles. Time may be running out for 47-year-old Higgins but Selby, at 38, can expect to enjoy a few more years at the top.

It’s an incredible achievement and it’s conceivable that no other player will reach the milestone of seven world titles in the future. But it’s not enough for Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan who will be targeting win number eight at the Crucible next May.
