9 Ball Movie Plot

Gail had her tenth birthday party tonight, but her Dad was not there. She loves her dad, and he loves her. He had told her he was bringing her a special present, so why was he so late? Gail thought she knew what the present was; it must be that special custom pool cue she had wanted. Dad must have stopped to pick it up on his way home from work; maybe he stopped at Vicky's billiards to shoot a few games of 9-ball and lost track of time? Gail looks at the posters of the great women pool champions on her wall, Dorothy Wise and Jean Balukas and smiles. A screech of tires outside shakes Gail's attention to the street. As Gail quickly opens her window, she sees a car speed up and stop next to her Dad, as he staggers up the street holding a long package under his arm. Gail waves to her Dad, he smiles, waves back, and blows her a kiss. A man jumps out of the car, runs up to Gail's Dad and stabs him in the chest and yells in his face "Dirty dogs must die!" Gail races to her Dad's side. As he lies dying, he says "Gail. Have faith, you will be a champion."

9 Ball Movie - Press and News Coverage

In addition to the promotions mentioned above, the 9 ball movie has received the full support of the BCA, as outlined in their publicity letter:

Dear Mr. Palma:

The Billiard Congress of America (BCA) is fully supportive of your newest project, "9-Ball", a feature-length film about an aspiring professional billiard champion on the women's pro tour, starring Jennifer Barretta, of the Women's Professional Billiard Association (WPBA).

As the governing body of billiards in North America, the BCA's mission is to promote billiards to the general public in the endeavor to make pool everybody's game. We accomplish this mission by placing articles in national and regional magazines and newspapers, coordinating TV and radio guest appearances by billiard pros and highlighting BCA Business Member products in print and electronic media.

The BCA sponsors two major televised events, the EnjoyPool.com 9-Ball Championships, played each year in Las Vegas and televised on ESPN and ESPN1, and the EnjoyPool.com Battle of the BCA Champions, a new made-for-TV event featuring twelve top billiard champions playing 8-Ball in fun home gameroom setting, which will also be broadcast on ESPN2.

Creating a movie dedicated to the exciting and competitive world of professional women's billiards will be a great boost to the sport and the industry. In addition to wishing you success, the BCA will offer its support in promoting the completed project to its members, the industry at large and the general public.

BCA Executive Director

As if that wasn't enough, Pennsylvania State Senator Vincent Fumo also wrote an endorsement letter, dated February 6th, 2006, for the movie:

Dear Mr. Palma:

I'm writing to express my support for the work that Main Street Productions is doing in Philadelphia, with its production of the film "9 Ball." The positive economic impact of this locally based production and investment is exactly the kind of project that Philadelphians can be proud to support.

I wish you the best of luck with the production of this film, knowing that the spirit of this great community is behind your efforts. I look forward to seeing the results on the big screen. Again, my best wishes to you for the success of this project.

Vincent Fumo
State Senator

The APA is also supporting the film, by actively promoting it to it's 250000 plus members. It will also provide product placement in the film to help authenticate the poolroom scenes says APA Public Relations Manager, Jason Bowman.

Jennifer's major sponsor, Olhausen, also issued a press release endorsing the film:

Jennifer Barretta Becomes a Star!

November 17, 2005

San Diego, CA:

Olhausen Billiards is pleased to announce our interest, commitment, and total support in the exciting upcoming pool movie "9-Ball" being produced by Main Street Productions starring Jennifer Barretta. Among other things, Olhausen will provide product placement and support for "9-Ball" that will include installation staff on the sets of this excellent and dramatic movie.

Sue Doyle, Marketing Director for Olhausen Billiard Mfg., Inc. says, "We at Olhausen will do everything in our power to promote "9-Ball" through a variety of means. We are happy to be working with Producer, Director, and Screenwriter Anthony Palma from Main Street Productions to pursue the best avenues for development, expansion and completion of this unique movie."

Olhausen, located in Poway, California, is known for their beautifully hand-crafted pool tables and fine line of matching game room accessories. The Olhausen Authorized Dealer Network extends throughout the United States and the world. Olhausen products are proudly made in the USA and are available in Oak, Maple, Cherry, and a variety of exotic hardwoods, which can be custom-finished to match your decor. Olhausen Billiard Manufacturing, Inc. is celebrating over 30 years in the business and has consistently pursued a tradition of dedication to Quality, Service, Selection, and Value. These attributes have earned the company the title of "The Best in Billiards."

Gail's story couldn't be told at a better time. Pool is slowly working it's way back into the mainstream and "9 ball" could be the catalyst for another pool explosion, much like "The Color of Money" was in the '80's. The only difference is that this time it won't only be the boys out buying new pool cues! With an exciting plot line full of twists and turns interwoven with Gail's touching story of loss, exploitation and redemption, "9 ball" is not just a pool movie, it's really a coming of age story. Sheltered as a child and controlled as a young adult, Gail discovers that her true passion is to leave the bars and smoky pool halls behind and set her sights on being the #1 player in the world. This project is the most exciting thing happening in pool right now and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. "9 ball" is destined to become a classic.
