How Cue Sports like Pool and Snooker Can Become Olympic Sports

The case to include cue sports in the Olympic games has been going on for decades. Cue sports of all types requires skill and a deep understanding of the game, and this has many calling for them to be recognized by the IOC.

A campaign for cue sports to be recognized as an Olympic sport at the 2024 games failed but the campaign has been ongoing since the 1950s. The campaign for poker has been going on for around the same length of time. The campaigns may not have been successful yet but there are good points to be made for both.

What Are the Benefits of Billiards?

Cue sports (like pool and snooker) are extremely accessible to anyone who wants to play, and more than that, it also has positive community benefits. Billiards can be a pleasant recreational activity for a community, bringing people together as they practice trick shots and play games. As people help each other get better at the game of billiards, they can also bond and make new friends with people they may not have interacted with before. Billiards is a physical activity too, training people to concentrate and think of ways to beat their opponents, which are all traits that the International Olympics Committee would want to promote through the games.

Unfortunately, it does seem as though cue sports won't become Olympic sports anytime soon. With the IOC having ruled that billiards won't be at the 2024 games and with match poker only just being recognized as a sport, it could take more campaigning. However, the teams behind the campaigns are passionate and will keep going until they're established at the games.
