Plastic Pool Rack Triangle Face Up or Face Down?

Plastic Pool Rack Triangle Face Up or Face Down?

What is the proper way to use a rack with a flange?

My friends and I have had many discussions about this.

  • I say the flange goes down, because the edge is rounded and helps to prevent wear on the felt.
  • Others say the flange goes up to aid in lifting the rack.

Which is correct?

I've always liked having the rack's plastic flanges at the top so that it is easier to smoothly lift the rack without touching the balls.

But then again, nice wooden racks don't have flanges, so I guess this maneuver is just part of the practicing.
