New Pool Table Cover Smells Bad

New Pool Table Cover Smells Bad

I just bought a brand new ProSeries pool table cover. It is made of a vinyl material and is black in color. It fits great the only problem is it has a treated smell. Think rubbing alcohol. This is a very large piece of material sitting in my living room smelling up the whole house, giving my boyfriend and I headaches. Anybody have the same problem? Any tips on cleaning, getting rid of the smell?

Thanks Michelle

I suggest you get in touch with the people you bought it from and tell them the problem and see what they say.

    Ahhh, thats horrible!

Is it a cheap plastic-like smell? (think those plastic blow up beach balls, etc...)?

What brand of billiard table cover is it, and what store did you buy it from?

I did a little search and found some alarming facts about vinyl. Why vinyl stinks: if that vinyl toy smells bad, chances are it contains toxic chemicals.(CONSUMER ALERT)

Chlorine constitutes one of vinyl's primary chemical building blocks. It's well known that under certain conditions chlorine produces some of the most dangerous pollutants humans have yet created: dioxins. Dioxins cause cancers, reproductive and developmental problems, and immune system damage in animals; they also they spread around the environment and concentrate further as they work their way up the food chain.

    I would return it ASAP.

But let us know what what it is made of and what the end result is.

Fenwick, thats what I was getting at with the asking whether it smelled like plastic. Same kind of thing happens there...where the plastic is full of Phthalates which cause cancer.

Did you ever get rid of the pool table cover odor?
