Shooting for 8 Ball but it is Completely Blocked by Opponent's Balls

Shooting for 8 Ball but it is Completely Blocked by Opponent's Balls

In Straight 8 Ball pool, what is the rule if:

  1. My object ball is completely surrounded by opponent's balls?
  2. I'm shooting for the 8 ball but it is surrounded by opponent's balls?

This question relates to the following billiard rules:

    1. I assume you mean "your last object ball" - because if you had multiple object balls remaining, you could just shoot for something else. In this case, you'll need to take a shot and most likely accept a "wrong ball first" foul, which will leave your opponent with ball-in-hand anywhere on the table.
    2. The same thing goes for this scenario, unless you accidentally pocket the 8 ball (which would result in your loss of the game).

    The only time you "lose the game" due to some issue with the 8 ball is when you pocket it:

    3.8 Losing the Rack

    The shooter loses if he:

    • (a) pockets the eight ball and fouls.;
    • (b) pockets the eight ball before his group is cleared;
    • (c) pockets the eight ball in an uncalled pocket; or
    • (d) drives the eight ball off the table.
