Open Table, and Pocketing a Ball and Accidentally the 8 Ball Goes In

I have a question about 8 ball that I need answered.

If the table is open after the break shot, and I pocket an object ball but the 8 ball also goes in accidentally, what happens?

In our case, nothing went in on the break shot. I took the next shot and sunk a ball plus the 8 ball. Does that ball count as being potted (for my choice of group) and we re-spot the 8 ball, or is it an illegal shot where I lose the game because I pocketed the 8 ball?

   Other than on the break shot itself, if you pocket the 8 ball prematurely, it is a loss of game.
