Question about slate

Question about slate

Hi, I god old brunswick pool table. Its 3 parts slate and I noticed (unfortunately only now) that most of the slate is not smooth like glass. It has ribbed surface. Very very fine ribbed but not as smooth as glass. Does this mean the slate is dead? Or should I just ignore it? Or should I fix it? (Because I didn't notice it when i saw it in his garage although the table was disassembled). Did you see slate like this?

Thanks!

The pattern you see is from the old blanchard grinders used to flatten the slate. Unless the depressions are larger than 0.003" you don't have much to worry about.

And if the balls roll true on the slate, you really don't have anything to worry about.

Thank you very much for the response, but how can I measure the depth and what is a true roll?
