Can Any Pool Table be an Outdoor Pool Table?

I'm getting my boyfriend a table for christmas. My neighbors are getting rid of theirs for an obscenely cheep price, you see. I don't know much about it. It will go outside and I will build an excellent rain guard to slip over it but is there anything else I need to think about? Help!
