All shafts are tapered to one degree or another. Your question is not quite clear.

Many of the people I play with have had shafts tapered from an original width down to 11.75 mm. I want a black dot shaft but I don't want it at 12.75mm

Funny you bring this up. I just had a disscussion with some of the guys I play with about the same subject. To my knowledge you can probabaly buy a black dot at whatever taper you want. I also understand that there are cue makers that can also it for you. But will the cost be worth it to you. Buying a new one or having it done by a cue maker.

I'm sure we will get more info soon.

I'm referring to having a cue maker do it for you.

As I mentioned before. It would come down to cost I would imagine. I am not an authority on the subject. Get in touch with some cue makers and price it out.

Im not worried about cost I just didnt know if it is possible to taper a laminated shaft. I know on the shaft I have now it could be done because its solid wood and has had the finish taken off. im just not sure what the process in making a laminated shaft is.

Any shaft made out of wood can be tapered. Solid shafts can extend the tapering all the way to the tip. The shafts with holed drilled in the end (to minimize deflection) can be tapered but the tip size cannot be reduced.

All of the carbon fiber and fiberglass shafts cannot be tapered (more than a fraction of a millimeter.) Tapering these would go through the structural material. The coating can be renewed and made smooth and round again--this generally cost more than it is worth.

Just a suggestion but if you want a 11.75 shaft why not get a Z-2. or is it because you want to match the ring work on your Meucci Pool Cue? As I understand it if you alter any low deflection shaft, sand or turn it down you void the warranty. Going down from a 12.75 to a 11.75 is a lot of sanding. Carolina Custom Pool Cue offers the black dot shafts from 12, 12.25, 12.50 or 13 MM. Would a 12 mm be small enough?

I have a meucci original 95-11 that is now remade a the hof-1 and I really want to match the ring work.

Did you resolve this issue? All wood shafts can be tapered by a cue maker. My advice is that you should contacta professional cue maker or pool cue repair technician in your city - it will be easy for a professional to finish the job like that in a relatively short time.
