Table selection Golden West, Brunswick, Olhausen
I have a reputable dealer that has the 3 brands above and I believe more. He's really interested in selling Golden West more than anything. I'm leaning towards Olhausen by reputation, but know litle about either. Looking in the $3k range. Might be presuaded to go a bit higher, but as a starter table I'm thinking this is within my comfort zone.
Looking for experience/opinions on Golden West vs Olhausen. Trying to stay USA and avoid mindless corporations like Brunswick. I gave them enough money with my Lund boat...

I think Golden West is made in China and if so, from what I've heard, be aware of poor workmenship. I would do my homework on tables before I buy. Were me, i would go with Olhausen. If he's pushing GW all the more reason to go with your instincts and Ol. In all the pro tournments I've watched I have never seen a GW table being used.

Been doing my homework yes. Dealer says two brands are comparable quality, just that Olhausen is more expensive.
One thing I can say is that GW is USA all the way and even makes their legs in house.

Golden West Billiards, MFG. is a family owned and operated company which started manufacturing in the late 1960's. Our products are sold worldwide, and the main reason for our success is quality and control of our products through our own slate and lumber importation. We are the ONLY pool table manufacturer that does all our own designing in-house. We have been the industry leader in product design, with many patents granted us over the years. We are the ONLY pool table manufacturer that does all laminating, wood turning and carving in-house. We are extremely proud of our detailed work and state-of-the-art finishing department.
Golden West Billiard equipment is truly in a class by itself with our emphasis on detail. It is considered, by many billiard experts, to be the standard of excellence for the industry.

Thanks for the education on tables. GW sounds like a solid company worth considering.

Just can't find a lot of testimonial information about them. Not as popular a name as Olhausen. I'm hoping to find someone with first hand experience.
From what I can see it's going to come down to aesthetics and price.
One neat thing that I like and most purisist seem to dislike is the Olhausen Fairfax has an optional ball return. I think I like the Hampton though...

You have to be your own purist and go with your gut instinct. Your money, your choice. Good luck in your decision.

I have owned a Golden West table (4x8) for several years and am very happy with it. It is a beautiful table and the quality is very good. It is 3 pc slate 7/8 inch.

It might serve you well to look around for a used quality table, such as a Brunswick Gold Crown, or the equivalent, and put a little money into refurbishing. Just a suggestion as an option.

In the $3k+ range you'll be happy with either Co. I worked for years as a dealer and have represented 10+ brands over that time and I'd buy an Olhausen every day of the week and twice on Sunday with my money in that price range.
