Coscto Venice Pool Table or Olhausen Americana?

Coscto Venice Pool Table or Olhausen Americana?

I'd really like some help with a dilemma I'm facing in choosing between a Costco pool table and an Olhausen Americana pool table.

My wife is wanting us to purchase a Coscto Venice pool table that includes a ping pong conversion kit and also a dart board set. I'm leaning towards an Olheausen Americana pool table from a local billiards dealer.

Now I don't know much about pool tables but I'm worried the Costco table isn't a quality pool table, granted the Olhausen table we're looking at is an entry level table, it's a very respected brand and the tables are made in the United States which is a huge selling point for me.

We're not avid pool enthusiasts but if we're going to make this big of an investment I'd like to get the best table for the money. I would really like to know your thoughts and if anyone has ever heard of the Venice pool table sold by Costco and hopefully of their quality.

Both the Venice pool table and the Olhausen Americana pool table are competitively priced at $3000. Specs are below

The choice is yours of course. As long as both tables come with slate I think you're fine. Where I see a problem is the set up. I would not have a chain store set up a pool table. Coscto as far as I know isn't in the pool table business and I would be willing to bet the table is made in China. I have nothing against a imported brand of anything except when it comes to pool tables. They just don't hold up IMO.

As far as the conversion to play Table Tennis you can buy the green partial boards to lay on the top of the table and with a net you're good to go. Did it for many years. Last the dart board can't cost very much. One time I would go the piece meal rout.

My advice is to go to the Costco store and put your head up under the bottom of the pool table and look at how its built underneath. Take 5-10 pictures and use flash. Then go to the Olhausen dealer and do the same.

Now back at your home computer, look at the difference in construction techniques. Most of the time the differences are pretty obvious.

Hint: I did the same thing and I bought the Olhausen in solid Cherry with Simonis 760 cloth and I feel that I made the right decision.

Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll go with the Olhausen just to buy a pool table that was made in the USA and for it's build quality.'

Unfortunately the downturn in the economy has impacted us and we're going to have to put off getting the table for a bit.

Thanks for your time and advice, it's very much appreciated.

With pool tables, as with most things, you get what you pay for.

I've always said that buying cheap equals buying twice.

I've researched every major purchase long and hard way before the days of the internet. I worked hard for my money. It's called comparison shopping. Car dealers have another name for it e.g. "Dealer hopping" or "playing dealers off each other".

What you've done is the smart way to shop. Ask the experts (not that I'd ever call myself one).

So save your pennies so you don't have buyers regret later. Take your time. We've all taken a hit with the downturn in today's economy. In the mean time spend a few hours and a few dollars and play at your local pool hall or pub. You might as well get a better feel for the game while you save up for your pool table. It's addicting in a good way.
