Best Billiard Training Books and Videos

I'm interested in poker and when I was learning it, I was looking for some literature on the subject. When I discovered "Two Plus Two Publishing", it became clear they were the real-deal when it comes to poker books, with nothing but math and experience of those who mastered the game and know how they managed it. Obvious difference between that and the many unsuccessful attempts of unsuccessful players to make some money writing crap books. It is enough to read one book on one specific game from T.P.T.P. and you know everything that is there to know.

My question is, can I find a similar best of breed cue sport book or series like this on billiards? I'm still a beginner when it comes to billiards, but I can already beat most other beginners. I like 9-ball and 8-ball. I do practice.

I would of course prefer some instructional billiard DVDs, but I don't expect them to be as good and detailed as books.

So does billiards have a small collection of instructional books and/or training videos that are so good that no other literature is required?

Go to YouTube, as they have many excellent instructional videos on all billiard disciplines.

There is nothing, to my knowledge, that is so good it is considered a magic bullet instructional book for cue sports. Once you understand that you can begin to consider what books or a DVD you may want to buy. There are a number of good books on the market and no one book is considered that much better than the other. What one person considers excellent another may consider mediocre. Different people gets different things from the same book or DVD. It is relevant to what one is looking for from the book or instructional DVD.

To save you some money I suggest you begin by looking right here on the Billiards Forum web site. It is loaded with information that is pertinent to the knowledge you are looking for. The links are right above this page and also on top of the page under Billiards, Billiard Tips and Rules.

Other than this site the closes thing to an all encompassing site is, Dave Alciatore's web site, also known as Dr. Dave (billiards.colostate.edu).

And as an addendum, every time I lose a game of pool I also learn something new.

Every bit of information is valuable to someone learning how to play pool, but there is no quick fix, or shortcut to becoming a good pool player.

The main thing is to put in hours and hours of practice learning the game and experiencing all kinds of different game situations.

I have been playing over 50 years, yet I still have a passion for the game, and every time I play, I learn a little something new. Enjoy the journey.
