Shooting Cue Ball Against Cushion to Re-Position

According to BCA 8 ball rules, is just shooting the cue ball against a cushion to re-position it legal? I mean it contacts a cushion, so wouldn't that be a legal shot in eight ball?

   I believe it is illegal both in 8 and 9 ball. Actually you are giving your opponent ball in hand for his/her next shot. It is also probably not legal in 14.1 either.
