Dove Logo Pool Cue Identification

Dove Logo Pool Cue Identification

I have a pool cue with a dove logo and I need help identifying it. It did come with a 2nd shaft and the markings match up but I didn’t take a picture of that part.

I got this cue from my grandfather who has been playing pool for over 80 years and is still going. He gave me this pool cue when I first joined my local APA pool league but he isn’t sure of the manufacturer or model or anything like that.

I would love to know what it is exactly that I’m shooting with. I have done some research but have come up pretty dry besides finding out the logo may be Steve Mizerak’s. I haven’t been able to find my exact cue and would like to identify the exact model.

It's a Steve Mizerak pool cue circa 1990 from Mizerak-Miller, Inc.

Yours is the Steve Mizerak SM-4.

Steve was in a business partnership for quite a while with a guy named Harold Miller (who also marketed a line of cues under the name of "Cobra"). They had a complete line of cues that they sold with Steve's signature on them. The cues sold for anywhere from around a $100.00 up to about $600. Some of them were really very good quality cues. Mizerak and his partner split up and liquidated the business several years before his death.

In fact here is a full page billiards digest ad from April 1990, and your cue is the one in the middle:

Are you interested in selling this cue?

I would very much like to buy it.

@billiardsforum I've honestly yet to find any of the other cues like it, and I found one similar picture where someone posted the values and the SM-4 went for $420.00 back when it came out. I talked to my grandfather and he said it originally had the signature on the cue but it started to fade out from him playing with it and he rubbed it off but I can still see exactly where it is because the black color from it is still mixed in to the cue.

@user1524770586 - I don't think I'd ever be able to separate myself from this cue. Seeing as I use it whenever I shoot and the sentimental value of this cue to me has no price tag seeing as it came from my grandfather who got me into pool in my early years.

But if anyone ever comes across any of those other cues from that series, I would definitely be interested in purchasing it.

Here is the 1992 Steve Mizerak Professional Series catalog page I came across after your response:

I collect these and have several. I have no doubles but if I get one I will contact you here. And if you ever do decide to sell, please let me know as I do not have that model yet.

To give you an idea, you can expect to pay about $200 for an original SM-7 in perfect condition with two original shafts. Generally these aren't seen as collectible so their values are not strong.

So far, I have an SM-7, and SM-5, and an SM-2, all in mint condition with two shafts and joint protectors.

I have only one original velvet sleeve that came with them. You will sometimes find some of these cues with one shaft because the dealers offered them for less that way, but the MSRP was for two shafts. Realize the MSRP was not a realistic price, these cues typically sold for substantially less. That would be called the "discount retail price".

But, they are the best of the Mizerak cues, and they honestly were pretty decent thought the ferrules were garbage.

The Cobra Professional cues were similar. Note I only mean the ones marked "Cobra Professional". I have a couple of those as well.

Can anyone here tell me the value of a dove logo Mizerak 861 Seagull cue from this line?

If so, drop me a note in my question linked above.

Anyone tell me the value of a Steve Mizerak SM3 cue? If so, leave an answer on my question at the link above.

I believe its from his professional series brochure above.
